abstract => protected'As part of its special initiative Transformation of Agricultural and Food Sy
stems, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
(BMZ) has established Green Innovation Centres in 16 partner countries of Ge
rman development cooperation. The Green Innovation Centres focus on smallhol
der farmers as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) in
the upstream and downstream segments of value chains. The objective of the g
lobal project is to sustainably increase agricultural productivity and house
hold incomes along selected value chains. In addition, micro, small, and med
ium-sized enterprises are supported in creating new jobs in food processing
as well as in upstream production, thereby ensuring that a larger share of t
he value added from agricultural production remains locally, particularly in
rural regions. Data collection for the endline study in Ethiopia took place
from February to March 2025 in eight districts (woredas) of the Arsi Zone i
n the southeastern part of the Oromia region. The contribution of project me
asures to agricultural productivity and incomes, as well as the adoption of
innovations in the sesame and rice value chains, was assessed using the Diff
erence-in-Differences (DiD) and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) approaches.' (1291 chars)

Green Innovation Centres for the agriculture and food sector (GIC), endline study Ethiopia

Abstract

As part of its special initiative Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has established Green Innovation Centres in 16 partner countries of German development cooperation. The Green Innovation Centres focus on smallholder farmers as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) in the upstream and downstream segments of value chains. The objective of the global project is to sustainably increase agricultural productivity and household incomes along selected value chains. In addition, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises are supported in creating new jobs in food processing as well as in upstream production, thereby ensuring that a larger share of the value added from agricultural production remains locally, particularly in rural regions. Data collection for the endline study in Ethiopia took place from February to March 2025 in eight districts (woredas) of the Arsi Zone in the southeastern part of the Oromia region. The contribution of project measures to agricultural productivity and incomes, as well as the adoption of innovations in the sesame and rice value chains, was assessed using the Difference-in-Differences (DiD) and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) approaches.
